Me Made May: Day 8

Hi Friends!

As an extension to yesterday's post
Am going to talk about the top

The top is made of self patterned and printed chiffon fabric
The shoulders before cutting are pulled towards the neck with help of two pin tucks
This gives stylish look to top, space for body and also show shoulder a bit more..
The top is made of just a metre of cloth
Front open and buttoned..

Simple yet very stylish and useful daily wear..
See you tomorrow in something different..

Me Made may 2016: Day 7

Hi Friends!

Today am back with a long gypsy or bohemian style skirt..
I love the free flowing feel around me..

The skirt is made of printed chiffon fabric taken out from my mother's used saree worn over an underskirt..

Design: Gypsy or Bohemian
Measure the waist at naval level and add some extra inches to make the waist band
As you notice the skirt is made in 5 tiers
Measure the length from naval to heel for total length of skirt
Divided total length of skirt by 5 to get width of each tier
Tier1: Waist measure + 0.5 metre
Tier2: Tier1 + 1 metre
Tier3: Tier2 + 1 metre
Tier4: Tier3 + 1 metre

Tier5: Tier4 + 1 metre
Sew them one after the other as the image drawn with pleats.
Put elastic in waist band
And you are ready to go..

The top here is also sewn by me
But let me talk about it tomorrow..
See you then..

Me Made May 2016: Day 6

Hi and a VERY GOOD DAY TO YOU ALL!

Taking my own pic is little difficult..
Managing position, exposure,..
Please bear with the image quality today

My today's me made garment is..

This is a top made of natural dyed hand-loom cotton fabric.
The top has a collar and is worn in overlap fashion, tied up with strings on the side.
Do note the asymmetry of the overlapping parts, highlighting the style..

The back side is no less interesting
There is a small cutout just bellow the collar adding fun..

This garment goes very well with trousers, jeans, wrap and skirts

Me Made May 2016: Day 4

Hi Everyone!

Am so thrilled..
Today's dress is..

Well today am wearing both the upper(kurta) and lower (churidaar payjama)  garment stitched by me.

The kurta is made of cotton fabric with block print. I have added border of contrasting strips of printed pink and muted gold fabric near sleeves, lower border and yoke.
The yoke is further embellished with sequins and Sindhi embroidery in red. The Sindhi embroidery is by my mother. I learnt Sindhi embroidery from Mamma, but am a little less confident with it.

Hope you like my creation for today..
See you again tomorrow..
Have a nice day!

I teamed it with little touches of white here and there
The neckline has little weave of white and mauve strips..
Tiny sequins adorn the chest..
Single line lace define the edge of sleeve..
The white stitched in place belt with crochet flower just completes it..

Am really thrilled to see so many people watching this post..
Thank you for your time and appreciation!
 Today is 2nd May
And my today's outfit is this

I sew a semi-patiyala salwar (the lower garment). This garment was originally designed and popular in Punjab state of India. The name comes from the place called Patiyala. Though now it is a very popular lowers wore by most of India and its neighboring countries.
Owing to its versatile use, it has gained popularity amongst all age groups.
Here I have teamed it with a Lycra sleeveless T-shirt  and a stole.
One can wear it with long or short kurtas or may be even boyfriend's shirt and belt..

Shall meet you tomorrow again..

As I said I shall share one me sewn garment each day, here is

Day 1

This top has a bohemian look!
It is made from silk fabric rescued from my mother's discarded silk saree. The asymmetric sleeves add fun to the outfit.

SEASON's GREETINGS! CARD MAKING by my kids

As the last term examinations finished and new school session yet to begin my kids at home pester me with the question "What shall we craft today ?"
So I helped them make their first greeting cards

Very cute and loving
We started with card paper or thick chart paper...
Cut them to card size...
Folded them...
Faintly drew the margins..
Sketched simple figures like kite, chick, fish...
Drew some appropriate background to the figures...

Adhrit and Aarotrika were too excited to make these card.
They coloured the cards...
And I taught them shading figures...
Then they added dark outlines to the main figures...

My kids also added a line of black and  gold each at the margin...
I cut the open edges of the cards using crafts scissors...
Fancy, right?

Each one of them are happy, bright, sweet, innocent and bring cheer...

Instead of making covered envelopes for the cards,
I simply cut strips of paper which I wound round  the width of the card glued the ends of strip...
Now one shall have to tear open the paper band to view the card...

SEASON'S GREETINGS TO YOU ALL!

TRIBAL PAINTING ON WOODEN SPOONS

Hi Everybody! Here is something I made some time back, but missed posting it on my blog. They look pretty on my dining room wall now..

I got inspired by the various knick-knacks I saw in a fair, Milan Mela Kolkata-2015. Here is a picture of the same.

After the visit to the fair, the very next day I dug out these wooden spoons from the store and decided to paint them..

Though I ended up painting in my own style after all, Am happy with the results.
I used acrylic paints here..
This picture is just before the final touches..

Here is the finished painting
The painting has sky, water, birds, animal, vegetation, cycles of day and night and human in harmony with nature..
I have hung the pair on the wall next to my dining area. They look pretty.
Hope you all like them...
